In May 2013, John and Emma Hooker embarked on a new venture to operate their own pub in their home town of Tavistock, The Cornish Arms.

The idea was to open an un-pretentious, relaxed pub serving the best quality food and drink for all to enjoy.

At The Cornish, we serve flavour driven dishes with little fuss, classic combinations that are sourced using the best quality produce the British Isles have to offer. This focus has been the driving force of The Cornish having held a Michelin bib gourmand for the past 5 years and also being included in the Top 50 Gastro pubs for the last 7 years, currently ranked at 16th.

To coincide with the offer of food and drink, John and Emma moved out of the pub in January 2019 where they had lived and brought up their son, to undertake major refurbishments and add 7 beautiful hotel rooms to the business.

With Emma’s design and influence, each room has its own individual and unique look and feel and since their launch in May 2018, they have continued to go from strength to strength with guests always enjoying the comforts of The Cornish
